U14  Div 3 League Final 2023

The first of your juvenile deciders was played on Monday last in perfect conditions, as the rain decided to give Clontibret a miss.

Truagh were first out of the blocks with a fine passage of play from Maisie Murphy to Danielle Meehan who raised the green flag with less than a minute gone. Some great turnovers followed, which eventually resulted in the Donaghmoyne capt Eimear Callan getting the ball away to her teammate Niamh Marron to point. Donaghmoynes Eabha Flannagan followed up with a second point after a good run forward following a cutout by Alisha Mulholland-Tyrell in the Truagh Forward line. Truagh did have their chances, but good defensive work by Donaghmoyne denied them taking good shots, however, Danielle Meehan combined once again for the latter to point. Donaghmoyne,s Niamh Marron put over a third from a free minutes later to put the minimum between the teams. Truagh began to up the work rate and were subsequently denied a good goal chance by the Donaghmoyne No1 Susanna Smith, however they secured a point for their efforts with Abbie Morrison-Ownes putting over. Another two points followed for the gaels with Chloe Mc Carey and Eimear O’Connell the providers to leave the half time in Truagh favour of 1-4 to 0-3. The second period commenced with Donaghmoyne introducing Elisha Lennon and what a sub she turned out to be. The initial minutes were tight until Niamh Marron added a point, then a determined Donaghmoyne finally got the opening they craved for with Alisha Mulholland-Tyrell goaling, this gave the fontenoys the break they needed and it further propelled the team to be more ambitious up front. Captain Eimear Callan was involved in the second major with Elisha Lennon firing to the net as Donaghmoyne kept up the pressure on every ball, a third major arrived soon after with the lively Niamh Marron not going to be denied her chance. Truagh faught gallantly to stem the flow and in particular fullback Sarah Mc Kenna was a driving force in the backline. Truagh did convert a free from Ownes, but this was all they could muster such was the dominance of Donaghmoyne as their chances went a begging with good defensive work by the fontenoys. The final scores of the game raised a fourth green flag for Donaghmoyne as sub Grace Callan added to the teams display while Captain Eimear Callan justly put the icing on the cake with a point.
