U14 Ulster Final

Ulster U14 silver final

Monaghan V Down – in Garvaghey (Sat 29th April @1pm)

The U14 team collected the silverware after an outstanding performance in their ulster final on Saturday last.It was clear from the throw in that the Farney girls were eager and ready for this challenge, their performance having improved with each round of games had left them in a great position.

Ger and his management team have to be commended for the work carried out with this brave group of players and its testament to the skill and ability shown in the final.

Monaghan were first off the mark with Caoimhe Dooley putting over as Down returned the favour less than a minute later with Lucy Elmore putting one over for her side.

Great defensive work was asserted by the Monaghan girls to keep the Mourne County at bay, as Monaghan yielded their first major in the 6th minute with a Brannagh Connolly close shot.

Down yielded a free for themselves with captain Annie McEvoy raising the white flag. However Monaghan got the next two frees well converted by lily Coyle. The latter player suffered a major setback minutes later as she was red-carded for an altercation with a Down player. However, this only served to rally the girls as they upped the ante and scored 1:

2 without reply in the final minutes of the half, with sharpshooter Caoimhe Dooley been the provider. The half time score standing in Monaghans favour 2 :5 to 0:2

Again Monaghan were to the fore with a great point despite under enormous pressure from Saoirse Wilson, Down came back with two in a row from Annie McEvoy & Connie Mc Grath. However for the next ten minutes Monaghan yielded of 1:2 the goal coming after great work by Aoife Honney to leave an opening for Caoimhe Dooley to place the ball firmly in the Down net. Monaghan began to ring the changes from the subs bench, as it became evident that they had the upper hand and would see this final 10 minutes out. Not finished yet Caoimhe Dooley got her hat trick of a third goal as she stroke a free to sail over the heads and just under the crossbar, Saoirse Wilson followed up with another green flag a minute later as her effort also went under the crossbar.

The final score seen Monaghan score 5:9 to Downs 0:7
